Heart failure is a worldwide health challenge with escalating mortality. Current therapies are largely limited to pharmacologic optimization, revascularization, and reconstructive or replacement options. Novel strategies to limit and potentially reverse cardiac pump failure are greatly needed. In existence since 2002, our laboratory focuses on the development and implementation of innovative strategies to limit cell death after cardiac injury, augment endogenous cardiac repair mechanisms, and develop bioengineered tissue in the treatment of congestive heart failure.
 

 

As a basic science laboratory led by a clinically active cardiac surgeon, our laboratory focuses on research which can be directly translated to the clinical realm:
