Research Interest
Smooth muscle contractility plays an important role in lower urinary tract (LUT) function. Abnormal smooth muscle contraction is associated with alteration in the composition of smooth myosin isoforms and impairment of bladder function. The objective of my studies is to understand the role of specific myosin isoforms such as SM-A and SM-B and the thin filament associated protein, caldesmon, in contractile function and the regulation of contraction at the signal transduction level. The primary model for these studies is Partial bladder outlet obstruction (PBOO).
