The Department of Surgery Measey Surgical Skills Suite is a 1400 square foot state of the art facility dedicated to surgical resident skills
training. The Measey Suite is located in the Penn Medicine Clinical Simulation Center at Penn Medicine Rittenhouse and opened July 2008.

Surgical Skills trianing allows junior residents to improve their technical and patient management skills. The acquisition of a solid technical basis of fundamental skills through dedicated skills courses will enhance the confidence level of junior surgical residents in clinical practice and in the operating room. Decision making, team interactions and communication skills, practiced in an open and error prone environment, will improve complex and time critical patient care.

The Measey Suite is equipped with all the needed training tools and the recent acquisition of a robot dedicated to training further augments the capabilities of the training suite. In order to assure the highest standards of training, the skills curriculum is developed and instructed by dedicated faculty members of all the surgical divisions. The skills curriculum is specifically designed to introduce the junior residents to all the major surgical fields. A one month designated rotation in surgical skills, was introduced in FY08 will give residents protected time for skills training and will allow them to acquire advanced surgical skills and techniques early on in their surgical career. As a center striving for excellence, the surgery skills suite will have a positive impact on the educational value of the residency training program.
