Complex
Thoracic
Aortic Disease
Patients
in need of complex aortic surgery receive the attention
of a multidisciplinary group dedicated to the medical
and surgical management of complex thoracic aortic disease.
The team provides management expertise for all types
of acute chronic aortic problems, including acute Type
A and Type B aortic dissection, ascending aortic and
aortic arch aneurysm, and aortic root reconstruction
(including homograft procedures, thoracic and thoracoabdominal
aortic reconstruction, and complex circulation management
techniques for aortic reconstruction). UPHS has also
been a leading center for endovascular treatment of
thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAA) and its clinical trials.
Patients are followed long-term by a team with expertise
in the care of patients with residual aortic dissection
and Marfan's syndrome. The clinical research program
focuses on cerebral and spinal cord protection during
thoracic aortic surgery.
