| Breast
Biopsy is an outpatient procedure in which the surgeon
removes tissue from the breast to get a diagnosis (to
find out what it is). If the area for biopsy is a lump
that can be felt, it is called an Excisional Breast
Biopsy. If the area for biopsy cannot be felt but was
picked up by mammogram, ultrasound or MRI, then on the
morning of surgery, after your breast is numbed, a thin,
flexible wire will be placed in the breast to guide
the surgeon to know what to remove. This is called a
Needle Localization Breast Biopsy.
