Laparoscopy and
Adrenal Diseases

Masses on the adrenal gland may sometimes cause symptoms, or pose a diagnostic dilemma. A team approach in evaluation is used, including an endocrinologist or oncologist if appropriate,
in conjunction with a surgeon. Some such tumors may need to be removed surgically. Functioning adenomas, pheochromocytomas, or enlarging masses can all be removed laparoscopically, using 3 or 4 incisions of 1/2 inch each. Biopsies of adrenal masses can also be done using minimally invasive techniques. In most cases patients will need only an overnight stay in the hospital.
