Laparoscopy and
Spleen Diseases

Splenectomy for a normal or near-normal sized spleen can be done using minimally invasive techniques. 4 or 5 one-half inch incisions are employed, and the spleen is extracted either intact by enlarging one of the incisions, or in a bag after morcellization. Hospital stay is usually only one or two nights. A routine search for accessory spleens is accomplished when indicated.
