Peptic Ulcer Disease

The Peptic Ulcer Disease program is primarily designed to provide treatment for patients refractory to medical therapy. Diagnostic and medical management is provided by the physicians of the gastrointestinal section. This includes extensive diagnostic acumen for endocrine based peptic ulcer disease, other unusual form of peptic ulcer disease, and those refractory to standard antisecretory therapy. Surgical treatment includes both laparoscopic and open procedures. The division has experience in secondary surgical procedures, including treatment of peptic ulcer refractory to initial surgery and treatment of the complications of previous gastric surgery.

Diagnostic evaluation is carried out in consultation with Gastroenterology Section. It includes the availability of upper endoscopy, gastric analysis, secretin testing, testing for post vagotomy ulceration and screening for helicobacter pylori antibody.
