Lung Transplant Program

Having performed over 800 lung transplantations since its inception in 1991, Penn's Lung Transplant Program is one of the most experienced in the country.

The Lung Transplant Program is staffed by pulmonologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, nurse practitioners, cardiologists, infectious disease specialists, nutritionists, physical and respiratory therapists, and social workers, the Penn Lung Transplant Program offers patients a multidisciplinary approach to the care of advanced lung diseases. As a recognized leader in pulmonary medicine and thoracic surgery, Penn is a Medicare-approved lung transplant center and a participant in the current Medicare/NIH sponsored trial of lung volume reduction surgery for treatment of advanced emphysema. The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania was recently named by U.S News and World Report as one of the top hospitals in the nation, and the Penn Pulmonary Division has been similarly recognized as one of the nation’s best.
