Denise Zappile is a Surgical Critical Care Nurse Practitioner with the Division of Traumatology, Surgical Critical Care, and Emergency Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center. Denise received her MSN from the University of Pennsylvania in 2000 after completing the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) Program. She is board certified as an ACNP.
Denise has a long history at Penn Medicine, beginning as a staff nurse on the ortho/trauma floor in 1992 and working on the Rhoads 5 Critical Care Unit as a staff nurse from 1994-2001. After completing graduate school, Denise was the Trauma Program Manager at Cooper University Hospital before joining the Surgical Critical Care Service (SCCS) as one of the first nurse practitioners on the service. She worked with the SCCS for 6 years before accepting a position as a Critical Care Educator at Holy Redeemer Hospital where she received The Hospital and Health System Association of Pennsylvania 2012 Achievement Award for her project, A Focused Educational Intervention as a Means to Increasing the Number of CCRN/PCCN Certified Nurses in a Hospital. Denise is a professional member of SCCM (Society of Critical Care Medicine), and AACN (American Association of Critical Care Nurses).
