Resident Evaluation Policy

The Department of Surgery maintains an ongoing system of standardized evaluations of resident performance:

  1. Monthly performance evaluations by all Faculty are completed through our on-line evaluation system. These evaluations are available for the residents' review at any time online.
  2. Annual In-Training Examinations. This exam provides formative feedback to residents and Program Directors concerning fund of knowledge in general thoracic surgery and cardiac surgery. Performance on the exam is reviewed in detail by the Program Director.
  3. Ongoing consultation with the Program Director through divisional meetings.
  4. Bi-annual review of each resident by the Program Director. A written summary of performance by the Program Director with input from the Cardiac and Thoracic Faculty becomes part of the residents' permanent record.
