Dr. Liza C. Wu is a board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon. For her undergraduate studies, she graduated from Stanford University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and Sciences, and for medical school, she attended University of Chicago and earned her Medical Doctorate, both with honors. She was one of the first residents to enter and complete a combined general surgery and plastic surgery residency at University of Chicago Hospitals. To complete her training, she did a fellowship in cancer reconstruction at the prestigious University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Wu’s practice encompasses both aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. Her aesthetic focus is rejuvenation of the face, breasts, and torso. She performs surgery of the periorbita, midface, face, neck, breasts, and abdomen. Her reconstructive practice consists primarily of cancer reconstruction of the head and neck, breast, trunk, and extremities. She is trained in reconstructive microsurgery and performs the most sophisticated flaps and procedures for restoring what cancer has destroyed. Her armamentarium includes the SIEA, DIEP, MS-TRAM flaps for breast reconstruction and soft tissue or bony flaps for head and neck, trunk, and extremity reconstruction.

Dr. Wu’s research goals aim to improve the current operative techniques used in breast reconstruction. She is an innovator of new techniques that have proven to decrease potential complications and improve the aesthetic outcomes. She has shown the utility and versatility of the vastas lateralis muscle flap in extremity and head and neck reconstruction. She is also interested in the current trends in breast reconstruction and the impact of gene testing on a woman’s decision to undergo mastectomy and reconstruction.

Dr. Wu has presented at the Life After Breast Cancer conference, Body Contouring conference, Penn Surgery Update conference, as well as national and international conferences throughout the region, country, and world. She is a physician who strives to provide for her patients the most innovative and safest procedures and operations, and has emerged as a new leader in the world of plastic and reconstructive surgery.
