Dr. Levine is a graduate of Yale University School of Medicine, where he also completed graduate training in immunobiology. He completed a general surgery residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital and a fellowship in abdominal organ transplantation at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center. His clinical interests focus on liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation in adults and children, living donor liver and kidney transplantation, laparoscopic right and left donor nephrectomy and hepatobiliary surgery.

His research interests involve the study of regulatory T cells and transplantation, chromatin regulation of regulatory T cell function by histone acetylation/deacetylation, hepatocellular carcinoma in liver transplantation, and recovery of renal dysfunction after liver transplantation.
