| Dr.
Adzick, Chief of Pediatric
Surgery, is interested in all aspects of pediatric general,
thoracic, and fetal surgery. He has particular interest in clinical
applications of fetal diagnosis and therapy. This experimental and
clinical research is focused on the prenatal diagnosis, natural
history, and management of the fetus with a surgically correctable
defect. At The Center for Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment at The Children’s
Hospital of Philadelphia, we are pursuing fetal surgical treatment
of life-threatening fetal anatomic malformations such as urethral
obstruction, diaphragmatic hernia, cystic adenomatoid malformation
of the lung, and sacrococcygeal teratoma. We are also pursuing the
prenatal treatment of a variety of a cellular deficiency diseases
by performing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in utero.
This enterprise requires study of the efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness
of fetal intervention, as well as ongoing experimental work in fetal
animal models. |
