RESEARCH INTERESTS: My research program is focussed on the genetics of schizophrenia and major mood disorders. Current projects include: (1) Genetics of Recurrent Early-Onset Depression, a 6-site effort, which I coordinate, to collect 1,000 affected sibling pairs for an NIMH-sponsored repository and complete an initial genome scan; (2) Molecular Genetics of Schizophrenia, a nine-site similar effort for schizophrenia (500 affected sibling pairs); and Multicenter Genetics Studies of Schizophrenia, a seven-site collaboration to conduct linkage and association studies of candidate regions in a large multicenter sample. Additional interested include genetics of mood disorders in an isolated rural population (including statistical-analytic issues in detecting genetics effects in data from such populations), dimensional measurements of lifetime features of psychotic disorders, and pharmacological treatment of schizophrenia and mood disorders.
